Terms to Know
Slate comes with its own set of weathering terms. Here is a clear guide to what each one means, so you always know exactly what you are choosing.
Weathering
Slate that naturally changes color over time due to exposure to the elements. This can include soft tones of brown, buff, or tan appearing as the slate ages.
Semi-Weathering
Slate that may partially change color over time. Some pieces will weather, some will stay their original shade, creating a natural, blended look.
Non-Weathering
Slate that does not change color over time. It keeps its original appearance, even with long-term exposure to weather.
Fading
Slate that gradually lightens or shifts in over time, This is an expected characteristic and part of the slate’s natural aging process.
Non-Fading
Slate that maintains its original color throughout its lifetime. It does not lighten or shift with weather exposure.
